Toronto Poetry Slam returns for a sixth Festival appearance, featuring some of Canada’s best and most engaging spoken word artists and next generation stars. This high-energy spectacle of original content will leave you feeling inspired. Presented in partnership with Toronto Poetry Project, this hit poetry slam is a competition in two rounds with multiple contestants, judged by members of the audience. Anyone is welcome to get up and perform for prizes, with the winner earning an invitation to participate in next year’s Festival.

Want to take part? Lobby doors will open at 6pm for poets to sign up and ask questions. Be sure to check out Toronto Poetry Slam’s guidelines “For the Poets” and “Code of Honor” here.

Audience members will be welcomed in at 6:30pm.

Featured Authors

Eddie Lartey is a Hamiltonian wordsmith who blends creative wordplay and storytelling to create a heartfelt experience for his audience. He details stories of love, struggle and triumph within the black experience. He is the 2019 Toronto International Poet Slam Champion, the 2021 Human Rights Film Festival Poetry Slam Champion and the 2022 Canadian Individual Poetry Champion as well among other titles. But at the end of the day he is just a man who likes to make people smile with his words.

Britta Badour, better known as Britta B., is an award-winning artist, public speaker, and poet living in Toronto. She is the recipient of the Breakthrough Artist Award (Toronto Arts Foundation, 2021) and Lecturer of the Year (COCA, 2021). Britta holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Guelph and teaches spoken word performance at Seneca College.
