About

Is reading dead? In an age of AI slop, declining literacy levels among children, and increased book banning in schools, is our culture slowly abdicating the skills and freedom necessary for sustained reading—especially with material that challenges us or voices opinions that may conflict with our own? What are the consequences of this shift from literate to post-literate (or anti-literate) culture, and are there ways that we might counteract it? What will replace the imagined community of readers in building a sense of community, working through difficult problems, and transmitting complex ideas? Join three thinkers to discuss the challenges facing reading and offer ideas about what we can do about it.

Presented in partnership with Victoria College, the conversation is moderated by Adam Sol, featuring Ira Wells, I. Augustus Durham, and Vass Bednar.
