90 mins

Learn how to craft compelling stories and bring captivating characters to life through hands-on lessons from acclaimed authors and industry experts.

What is tone? How is it related to voice? Or mood? Or register? These aspects of writing feel nebulous compared to more concrete aspects such as setting or tense or perspective, but they are essential to every piece of writing. How does one decide on the tone for a piece and then go about establishing it? How does one maintain tone over the course of a work?

Writer, filmmaker and Creative Director of the Humber School for Writers, David Bezmozgis, will define and examine this invaluable element of writing craft in this 90-minute masterclass. Hands-on writing exercises will be part of the class. All writing levels welcome.

Presented by TIFA in partnership with the Humber School for Writers.
