Fans of all things grim and Gothic won’t want to miss this discussion with masters of sinister storytelling Adriana Chartrand and Marie Hélène Poitras. In their latest works, family ghosts haunt the pages while the lines between worlds become blurred in two dark explorations of power, trauma and violence.

Chartrand’s contemporary supernatural horror story An Ordinary Violence delves deep into the legacy of generational trauma at the hands of human beings whose acts are far more monstrous than those of the spirits who live alongside us.

Meanwhile, making use of familiar fairytale elements, Poitras’s Sing, Nightingale (translated by Rhonda Mullins) is a powerful tale of female rage and revenge against the generations of greedy and gluttonous men that have long reigned.

Moderated by Aparita Bhandari.

Presented with support from the Bureau du Québec à Toronto (BQT).
