About
Grab a slice of cake, a cup of tea, and step into a dialogue between two beloved authors Melodie Edwards and Uzma Jalaluddin for a spirited conversation on modern romance inspired by the timeless works of Jane Austen. Jalaluddin’s Much Ado About Nada offers a fresh take on Persuasion, set against the backdrop of a Muslim conference in Toronto, where Nada Syed must confront the man she once let go. In Once Persuaded, Twice Shy: A Modern Reimagining of Persuasion, Edwards also draws from Austen, crafting a tender, contemporary tale of former lovers reunited.
Melodie Edwards is the author of Jane & Edward. She has a BA from the University of Toronto, a master’s degree from McMaster University and Syracuse University (2023), studied comedy writing at the Second City Training Centre, and works in communications.
Uzma Jalaluddin is a critically acclaimed and bestselling novelist, playwright, and teacher. She writes nuanced and entertaining stories about Muslims, South Asians, and Canadians and is the author of Much Ado About Nada, Three Holidays and a Wedding, Hana Khan Carries On, and Ayesha at Last, as well as her first play, The Rishta.
