Two masters of historical fiction-writing, Maureen Jennings and Donald S. Murray, share the stage to discuss their newest works of suspense. Jennings, renowned author of the Detective Murdoch series (the inspiration for the hugely popular Murdoch Mysteries television series), presents the third installment of the Paradise Café Mysteries, Cold Snap. It’s 1936 and private investigator Charlotte Frayne is pulled into a dangerous international plot when her boss provides shelter to a relative in grave danger; and a domestic mystery, as her estranged mother requests Charlotte’s help to find a child she gave up at birth 20 years ago. Following his prize-winning first novel, As the Woman Lay Dreaming, Murray presents his equally moving new novel In A Veil of Mist. A haunting exploration of a little-known incident involving Cold War-era germ-warfare in Murray’s homeland in remote Scotland, shedding light on the personal costs of war-mongering, and the anguishing moral struggle of government scientists at the centre of it all.
