(“The Contest Parties”)

ATEENDEE PRIZE DRAW
(“The Contest”)

from September 21 – October 1, 2023
(“Contest Period”)

1) HOW TO ENTER

No purchase required. Audience members who attend one or more of the following events, taking place at the 2023 Toronto International Festival of Authors during the Contest Period, will be invited to enter The Contest by submitting a contest ballot form.

  • Wattpad’s Ask the Expert – Writing Romance in 2023, September 23, 2023 at 1pm ET
  • Wattpad’s Ask The Expert – Online Publishing, September 23, 2023 at 4pm ET
  • Wattpad’s Ask The Expert – Story tropes; love them or leave them?, September 23, 2023 at 6pm ET

Limit of one (1) entry per person per event. Entrants who attempt or are suspected of attempting to enter more than one entry per event or use robotic, automatic, programmed or any entry methods not authorized by these Contest rules set out herein (the “Contest Rules”), shall be deemed as tampering and will, at the Contest Parties’ sole discretion, be disqualified from the Contest.

2) ELIGIBILITY

The Contest is open to all residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entry. Employees and representatives of the Contest Parties, as well as their advertising and promotional agencies, affiliated corporations and other persons, firms or corporations involved in the development or execution of this Contest, are not eligible to enter or win the prize in this Contest. Individuals must provide express consent to opt-in to the Contest to be eligible for the Prize (defined in Section 4 below).

3) DRAW AND WINNER SELECTION PROCEDURE

During the week of October 2, 2023, in Toronto, Ontario, one (1) eligible entrant will be selected by random draw from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. Before being declared a winner, the selected entrants will be contacted by email and notified that they are eligible to win. The selected entrants must reply within one (1) day of notification and correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question, and confirm compliance with the Contest Rules. If a selected entrant cannot be reached within one (1) day following the first attempt of contact, incorrectly answers the mathematical skill-testing question, declines the Prize, or fails to return the required release form, which will, among other things, require the winner to (i) confirm their compliance with these Contest Rules; (ii) acknowledge acceptance of the Prize as awarded; (iii) release the Contest Parties from any and all liability in connection with the Contest, then the Prize shall be forfeited and the Contest Parties have the right, at their sole discretion, to select another winner.

4) THE PRIZE

One winner will receive the Prize, which consists of:

  • One (1) free weekend pass (2 Days) to attend the 2024 Toronto International Festival of Authors (dates TBD)

The total estimated retail value of the Grand Prize is C$300. The Contest Parties shall not have any responsibility or liability for any Contest winner who does not redeem their Prize within the time period set out for the Prize. The Prize must be redeemed as awarded and is not transferrable. There is no cash equivalent available for the Prize.

5) ENTRY CONDITIONS / CONTEST RULES

By entering this Contest, each entrant agrees to abide and be bound by these Contest Rules. All decisions of the Contest Parties shall be final and binding upon the entrant without any right of appeal. To be declared a winner, the entrant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.

The Prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged or refunded for an amount of money, sold or transferred. No substitutions will be allowed. Any unused portion of a Prize will be forfeited. If a Prize cannot be awarded as described in these Contest Rules, the Contest Parties reserve the right to substitute a Prize or Prize component with another of comparable value, as determined in their sole discretion. Refusal to accept a Prize releases the Contest Parties (hereinafter defined) from any obligation toward the Contest winner.

By participating in the Contest, the Contest winner agrees, in perpetuity without any limitation, to the having their name, voice, or likeness being used in promotional material relating to this Contest without additional financial or other compensation. All entrants hereby release the Toronto International Festival of Authors, International Readings at Harbourfront, Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group and Harbourfront Corporation (1990), and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, volunteers and agents (the “Contest Parties”), from and against any and all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this Contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the Prize. All entrants acknowledge that although this Contest may be promoted on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or other social media platforms, it is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or such other social media platform.

The Contest Parties reserve the right, exercisable in its discretion, to disqualify and ban any entrant from the Contest if the entrant is found or is believed to have been tampering with the entry process, or the operation of the Contest. The Contest Parties will not be held responsible for missing or damaged entries, and they reserve the right to cancel, suspend, withdraw or amend this Contest in any way, without prior notice or obligation, in the event of an error, technical problem, computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, act, request or requirement of any governing authority or body, or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of the Contest Parties that interferes with the proper conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these Contest Rules. The Contest Parties reserve the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law in the event of any attempt by an entrant to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest.

By entering this Contest, each entrant agrees that the Contest Parties will not be liable for any injury or damage from whatever cause associated with or in connection with this Contest.

Any decision made by the Contest Parties with respect to any component of the Contest shall be final and binding on all entrants of the Contest, without any right of appeal.

This Contest shall be governed by the laws of Ontario and all applicable federal and municipal laws therein, and void where prohibited or restricted.

7) PRIVACY

Any personal information gathered from Contest entrants in connection with this Contest will be kept in a secure and confidential database and will not be rented or sold. Personal information of the Contest entrants will be used for the administration of this Contest for the purposes of this Contest only.

8) OWNERSHIP OF CONTEST ENTRIES

All Contest entries become the property of TIFA, and all copyright and moral rights in and to the Contest entry shall transfer and vest absolutely and without restriction in and to TIFA.

BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY, EACH CONTEST ENTRANTACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEIR ENTRY (INCLUDING USERNAME AND PROFILE PICTURE) MAY BE POSTED ON TWITTER, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, VARIOUS OTHER INTERNET-BASED SITES AND/OR TIFA’S PROPRIETARY WEBSITE, WHERE IT MAY BE VIEWED, SHARED (BY USERS OF TWITTER, FACEBOOK, INSTRAGRAM AND VARIOUS OTHER INTERNET-BASED SITES) AND COMMENTED ON BY THE SPONSOR AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
