Authors Stéfanie Clermont and Wendy Erskine each explore the experience of being young and confused by playing with narrative possibilities. Canadian author Clermont’s The Music Game is a collection of stories that revolve around a group of millennials who have gathered together after their friend commits suicide. Dance Move, Irish author Erskine’s second short story collection, follows a cast of characters as they struggle to gain control of their lives and reminisce about what it was like to be young. Join us for a discussion about the struggles of growing up.

Featured Authors

Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Stéfanie Clermont travelled throughout Canada and the United States, working at a wide variety of jobs, before settling in Montreal in 2012. The Music Game, her first book, won the prestigious Ringuet Prize of the Quebec Academy of Arts and Letters, the Quebec Arts Council's prize for a new work by a young artist, and the Adrienne Choquette Prize for short stories. It was a finalist for the Grand Prix du Livre de Montréal and was included in Le Combat des livres, the French-language counterpart of Canada Reads.

Wendy Erskine is the author of short story collections Sweet Home (2018) and Dance Move (2022). Her work has been published in The Stinging Fly, Winter Papers, Female Lines: New Writing from Northern Ireland and Being Various: New Irish Short Stories and read on BBC Radio 4. Sweet Home was Book of the Year in the Guardian, The White Review, Observer, New Statesman, and TLS. It won the 2020 Butler Literary Award, was shortlisted for the Edge Hill Prize 2019 and longlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize 2019. The story 'Inakeen' was longlisted for the Sunday Times Audible Short Story Prize 2019. Wendy Erskine’s Festival appearance is generously supported by Culture Ireland.
