On September 9, join author Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio for the launch of her novel Reuniting With Strangers (Douglas & McIntyre). The event will take place at the Centre for Social Innovation from 6pm–8:30pm ET. As a celebration of Filipino-Canadian literary community, this event will start with acknowledgements of people in Pluma, the author’s Filipino writing group, who were crucial to bringing her stories to life. The night will end with a reading and conversation with Jennilee about her novel.

This is a free Toronto Lit Up event. All ages are welcome to attend (and dogs, too!) Books will be sold on sit by A Different Booklist.

Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and March 2023, Toronto Lit Up has presented 165 events featuring over 200 Toronto authors and illustrators. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio has worked with Ontario school boards as a settlement worker, public speaker and researcher, also founding Filipino Talks - a program that builds bridges between educators and Filipino families. She has a Masters in Immigration and Settlement Studies, a post-graduate certificate from the Humber School for Writers. Her writing has appeared in anthologies, Geist and The Philippine Reporter where she was a journalist. She is a founding member of a collective of Filipino-Canadian writers www.plumawrites.ca. As a community worker, youth mentor, Little Manila tour guide and author Jennilee spends a lot of time thinking about the Filipino community.
