Join author Mary Fairhurst Breen at Glad Day Bookshop on October 11 at 7pm for the launch of her book Pride & Persistence: Stories of Queer Activism. She will be joined by several of the queer activists and allies she profiles in her inspiring new collection of biographies for young readers. This event will be moderated by Jo Vannicola, who is profiled in the book.

This is a free Toronto Lit Up event. Light refreshments will be available. Books will be for sale on site. RSVP to katherine@secondstorypress.ca by Friday, October 6th, 2023.

Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and June 2022, Toronto Lit Up has presented 137 events to launch 161 books by 236 Toronto authors. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. They are open to the public and free to attend. Click here for more information.

Mary Fairhurst Breen is the author of the memoir Any Kind of Luck at All and the children’s books Pride and Persistence: Stories of Queer Activism and Awesome Andie’s Best of the Block. As a queer feminist author, writing is Mary’s current form of activism after decades spent working for social change and protesting for equal rights. She lives in Toronto.
