On September 20 at 6pm, join author Naila Keleta-Mae for the launch of her book Performing Female Blackness. The event will take place at A Different Booklist and Blackhurst Cultural Centre. Naila will be introduced by Siobhan McMenemy from Wilfrid Laurier University Press and the event will feature Dr. Andrea Davis, Emily Radcliffe and Ordena Stephens-Thompson. Kobèna Aquaa-Harrison will be the percussionist. There will be a conversation with the author and a Q&A session.

This is a free Toronto Lit Up event. Light refreshments will be available. Books will be sold on site by A Different Booklist.

Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and March 2023, Toronto Lit Up has presented 165 events featuring over 200 Toronto authors and illustrators. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. Naila Keleta-Mae is a Dorothy Killam Fellow, the Tier 2 SSHRC Canada Research Chair in Race, Gender, and Performance, an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Waterloo, a multidisciplinary artist, and the Principal Investigator of Black And Free. She lives in Toronto.
