Author and Kwakwaka’wakw nation member Gord Hill paints a powerful and historically accurate graphic portrayal of decades of Indigenous resilience in his latest creation, The 500 Years of Resistance Comic Book. Tune in for an conversation with the Indigenous rights and anti-globalization activist about the history of Indigenous resilience and the European colonization of the Americas, from Christopher Columbus’s invasion to the more recent Six Nations land reclamation in Ontario. His strong yet simple narrative, paired with evocative illustrations that narrate traumas of the past, resonates deeply with the fighting spirit of those battling the ongoing resistance today.

Gord Hill is a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw nation, whose territory is located on northern Vancouver Island and adjacent mainland in the province of “British Columbia.” His previous books include The Antifa Comic Book, The Anti-Capitalist Resistance Comic Book and the first edition of this book, published as The 500 Years of Resistance Comic Book in 2010. He has been involved in Indigenous peoples’ and anti-globalization movements since 1990.

Dr. Pamela Palmater is a Mi’kmaw lawyer, professor, author and social justice activist from Ugpi’gan’jig (Eel River Bar First Nation). She has four university degrees, including a Doctorate in Law from Dalhousie University specializing in Indigenous law. She currently holds the position of full Professor and Chair in Indigenous Governance at Ryerson University. Pam was one of the spokespeople and public educators for the Idle No More movement and advocates alongside other movements focusing on social justice and human rights. She is frequently called as a legal expert before Parliamentary, Senate and United Nations committees dealing with laws and policies impacting Indigenous peoples and is considered one of Canada’s Top 25 Influential Movers and Shakers by the Financial Post.
