Sit down with Val McDermid, Scotland’s Queen of Crime, to learn about her newest series, 1979. The Scottish, multi-award-winning author who brought to life the bestselling exploits of Tony Hill, Carol Jordan and Karen Pirie, will introduce her latest heroine, investigative journalist Allie Burns. McDermid’s first new series in nearly 20 years, 1979 chronicles an investigation into the murder of a friend and colleague during the upheaval of 1979, and the world of corruption and terror that unfolds. In conversation with Ruth Wishart, McDermid will share how her own experiences as a young journalist shaped the character of Allie, and what this escape to the past has to say about the present.
