McDermid’s first new series in nearly 20 years, 1979 chronicles an investigation into the murder of a friend and colleague during the upheaval of 1979, and the world of corruption and terror that unfolds. In conversation with Ruth Wishart, McDermid will share how her own experiences as a young journalist shaped the character of Allie, and what this escape to the past has to say about the present.
