Join us on the opening night of Native Earth’s Weesageechak Begins to Dance to celebrate the book launch of Niizh by Joelle Peters. This fun and free event will take place from 4pm-6pm on November 21 in the Daniels Spectrum Community Living Room. Enjoy delicious food and a special interview with the author and artists from the original production. Books will be available for purchase and signing.


Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and March 2024, Toronto Lit Up has presented over 200 events featuring over 250 Toronto authors and illustrators. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. Joelle Peters is an award-winning Indigenous (Anishinaabe) actor/playwright working in theatre, television, film and current Artistic Director of Native Earth Performing Arts. Her plays include Niizh, Frozen River (with Michaela Washburn and Carrie Costello), and do you remember? Joelle has performed at the Stratford Festival, SummerWorks, the Thousand Islands Playhouse, Western Canada Theatre and more.
