This event is no longer available for viewing.

This is a class about the construction of unforgettable sentences. Using examples from Toni Morrison, Garth Greenwell, and a host of other writers, we’ll take a look at how to put together a single thought, a string of thoughts, or in some cases an entire constellation of ideas and emotions into the space between two periods.

The Humber School for Writers returns to the Festival with a series of daily professional writing masterclasses led by its renowned faculty members and special guests. Each 90-minute class will be presented virtually and will focus on a specific aspect of writing craft. Sign up for one or attend them all! All writing levels are welcome.

This hands-on Masterclass, titled “What a Powerful Sentence Looks Like”, will be led by 2021 Scotiabank Giller Prize shortlisted author Omar El Akkad (What Strange Paradise).

Cost: $56 per workshop.
