Join Mai Nguyen on February 6, 2024, for a conversation about her new book, Sunshine Nails. This fun and funny, but not frivolous, tale of about a Vietnamese Canadian family in Toronto, who must fight to protect their nail salon against gentrification in the form of a luxurious chain salon. Sunshine Nails explores generation gaps, work and making a home in a new country.

By the Lake Book Club offers six Tuesday-night events, between February and December featuring leading Canadian authors in conversation with Humber College graduates and alumni. Each in-person event includes a reading, discussion, audience Q&A, book-signing and American sign language interpretation. Virtual events are subtitled live and provide online viewing and audio.

Mai Nguyen is a National Magazine Award–nominated journalist and copywriter who has written for Wired, the Washington Post, the Toronto Star and several major brands. Raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she now lives in Toronto. Sunshine Nails is her debut novel. Visit her at MaiNguyen.ca.
