Scarlett Cortez is an educator and multidisciplinary artist from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She received her BFA in Fine Arts from The Institute of American Indian Arts. Her work often deals with topics such as sexual assault, mental illness, body image, and human connection. She was the 2016 slam poet laureate for the American Indian Higher Education Consortium and a student blogger for Tribal College Journal. She is currently living in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is a part of the Mindwell Poetry team in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
