Nardi Simpson is a freshwater Yuwaalaraay storyteller and performer. She is a founding member of Australia’s longest-active all-female, all-Indigenous band ‘Stiff Gins’ who have been performing and touring nationally and internationally for 28 years. Her first work of fiction ‘Song of the Crocodile’ was winner of the 2018 Black & Write! Fellowship and long listed for the 2021 Stella Prize and Miles Franklin Awards. Her second novel the belburd was released in 2024. Nardi is a graduate of Ngarra Burria First Peoples Composers and is a researcher at the University of Sydney where she works with her community to keep song, language and story thriving.
