Marie NDiaye is one of France’s most acclaimed contemporary writers. She published her first novel at seventeen and has since written numerous novels, plays, and short stories. Her novel Rosie Carpe won the Prix Femina in 2001, and Three Strong Women (Trois femmes puissantes) was awarded the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 2009. Her psychologically incisive fiction explores identity, family, belonging, and displacement, often blending realism with the uncanny. Widely translated and internationally celebrated, Marie Ndiaye’s most recent English publication, The Witch, translated by Jordan Stump, was shortlisted for the 2026 International Booker Prize.
