Bio
Diego Matamoros has been performing in Canada, as well as the United States, on stage and screen now, for forty years. He is one of the most awarded and respected theatre actors in Canada. He began his theatre career training in London, England, graduating from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 1979. In 1998 he co-founded the Soulpepper Theatre Company in Toronto and was one of its founding artistic directors.
He has acted in most of the major theatres across Canada, including playing major roles for several seasons with the Stratford Festival, in Stratford, Ontario. He has performed major roles in Cincinnati, in Chicago, and several times in New York City, including Off-Broadway and at the Pershing Signature Theater on 42nd Street in 2017. As well as being the recipient of a Canadian Gemini Award for best performance in a television Mini Series (The Sleep Room), he is also the recipient of four Dora Mavor Moore Theatre Awards for Best Performance, and has been nominated 12 times.
