The International Visitors (IV) Programme committee, in association with the Toronto International Festival of Authors (TIFA), is pleased to launch the call for applications for our 19th edition. We invite mid-level publishing professionals to join us in Toronto (Ontario, Canada) from October 26 to November 1, 2026, for a premier fellowship experience.
The Programme Experience
The IV Programme offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the Canadian and Ontarian book markets. Participants will develop high-level business relations through:
- Curated Networking: Professional speed-dating pitches and one-on-one meetings with top Canadian publishers and agents along with networking social events.
- Industry Leadership: Participating in or attending expert panels on acquisitions, market trends, etc…
- TIFA Festival Access: Full access into the Toronto International Festival of Authors events and sessions (October 28 – November 1, 2026).
- Market Tours: A guided look at Toronto’s vibrant literary scene.
Two Fellowship Tracks
We are seeking approximately 10–12 fellows across two distinct categories:
1. International Fellows (Discovery & Acquisition) Designed for editors, agents, and scouts from around the world. Your goal is to discover new Canadian voices, identify specific titles for acquisition, and build a localized network of Ontario-based partners.
2. Canadian Fellows (Ambassadorship & Export)
Designed for Canadian professionals specifically looking to sell rights and export Canadian content to international markets. As a Canadian Fellow, you will act as an industry ambassador, helping international visitors navigate our market while actively pitching your house's lead titles for international rights sales.
Eligibility & Fellowship Support
We welcome applicants from all editorial fields, including fiction, non-fiction, YA, Children’s books.
- Professional Level: Applicants should be mid-level professionals with experience in acquisitions, rights, or scouting.
- Travel & Stay: For selected fellows, TIFA provides comprehensive support covering round-trip travel and hotel accommodations.
How to Apply
Your application must include a current résumé, a one-page letter of intent, and a letter of recommendation from a professional within the publishing industry.
In the application form, you will be asked to describe your publishing house (size, independence, and genre focus), your specific acquisition or sales goals, and your familiarity with the Ontario market.
