About

Join us for a captivating conversation on building atmosphere in modern crime fiction, with authors Don Gillmor and Lilja Sigurðardóttir. Gillmor presents Cherry Beach, a compelling new novel that explores the tensions and hidden fractures beneath a seemingly familiar world, unfolding into a gripping narrative shaped by consequence and discovery. Sigurðardóttir introduces Black as Death, the unmissable conclusion to her award-winning Áróra Investigation series, a taut thriller that delves into the darker edges of human ambition, where danger and deception intertwine and nothing is as it seems.

A brutal murder exposes secret real estate deals, a corrupt police force, and the dark heart of a city simmering with unrest. When two girls are found murdered in a rundown Toronto highrise, Jamieson Abel and his partner are first on the scene. Abel is a law school dropout turned police detective chronically at odds with his colleagues and perpetually on the brink of being terminated, and Davis is the department’s only female officer of colour.

A final reckoning… With the fate of her missing sister, Ísafold, finally uncovered, Áróra feels a fragile relief as the search that consumed her life draws to a close. But when Ísafold’s boyfriend – the prime suspect in her disappearance – is found dead at the same site where Ísafold’s body was discovered, Áróra’s grip on reality starts to unravel … and the mystery remains far from solved.
