About

Join us for an exciting event with award-winning authors Carleigh Baker and Amanda Peters as they share the inspirations behind their latest short story collections and discuss how fiction can be a powerful tool for dissecting and understanding the world around us. Carleigh Baker’s Last Woman delivers 13 character-driven stories that tackle contemporary issues such as fear for the future, intergenerational misunderstandings and the complexities of belonging with sharp wit and boundless empathy. Amanda Peters follows up last year’s Berry Pickers with Waiting for the Long Night Moon combining traditional storytelling with evocative prose, covering topics from early European contact to modern environmental struggles. Together, they will explore misguided characters, the resilient power to endure and the critical perspective that Indigenous authors bring to the literary world.

Moderator: Jennifer Alicia Murrin

The Festival of Indigenous Stories is a two-day celebration with Indigenous writers, artists and storytellers taking centre stage for conversations, readings, performances and activities on the shores of Lake Ontario.
