Join author Zhang Ling on Saturday, August 12 at 2pm ET for the launch of her novel Where Waters Meet (Amazon Crossing). Hosted by the Canada-China Institute for Business & Development, Zhang will be in conversation with professor Christopher Payne, an East Asian literature expert and a literary translator at the University of Toronto.

This free Toronto Lit Up event will take place at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Ted Rogers School of Management building from 2-4pm. The event will consist of a reading, Q&A and reception.

Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and March 2023, Toronto Lit Up has presented 165 events featuring over 200 Toronto authors and illustrators. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. Featured Authors

Winner of the Chinese Media Literature Award for Author of the Year, the Grand Prize of Overseas Chinese Literary Award, and Taiwan’s Open Book Award, Zhang Ling is author of nine novels and numerous collections of novellas and short stories, including A Single Swallow, translated by Shelly Bryant; Gold Mountain Blues; and Aftershock, which was adapted into China’s first IMAX movie. Where Waters Meet is her first novel written in English, and she received support for this work from both the Canada Council for the Arts and an Ontario Arts Council grant. Born in China, Zhang move to Canada in 1986 and currently resides in Toronto.
