Join Robert Priest on October 6 at 6:30pm ET to celebrate the release of If I Didn’t Love the River (ECW Press)! Featuring a poetry reading, Q&A and a guest musical performance, this free Toronto Lit Up event will take place at Noonan’s pub in the Danforth (141 Danforth Ave., Toronto).
Doors will open at 6:30pm. Program begins at 7pm sharp. Light refreshments will be provided. This is a FREE event, but please have your registration ready to show at the door.
A profound meditation on love, death, sex and sickness, If I Didn’t Love the River speaks directly to the polarizations of our time. In this virtuoso display of sonnets, free verse, prose poems, villanelles, ghazals and aphorisms, People’s Poet Robert Priest makes it clear why the Pacific Rim Review has called him “surely the most imaginatively inventive poet in the country.” Book sales made available by Queen Books.
Robert Priest’s words have been debated in the legislature, posted on buses, quoted in the Farmers’ Almanac, and turned into a hit song. His book Reading the Bible Backwards peaked at number two on the Canadian poetry charts, outsold only by Leonard Cohen. He lives in Toronto, ON.
Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and June 2022, Toronto Lit Up has presented 137 events to launch 161 books by 236 Toronto authors.
