Join debut author Liselle Sambury on Friday, June 18 at 7pm ET to celebrate the launch of Blood Like Magic with Simon & Schuster Canada. This free Toronto Lit Up event will feature a chat between Liselle and bestselling author of Wings of Ebony, J. Elle, on all things Blood Like Magic. Following the discussion there will be an audience Q&A!

Blood Like Magic is a rich, dark urban fantasy debut following a teen witch who is given a horrifying task: sacrificing her first love to save her family’s magic. The problem is, she’s never been in love—she’ll have to find the perfect guy before she can kill him. This highly anticipated novel is set in a futuristic Toronto setting.

Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 to December 2020, Toronto Lit Up has produced 107 events to launch 131 books by 177 Toronto authors. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. They are open to the public and free to attend. Click here for more information.

Liselle Sambury is a Trinidadian-Canadian author. Her brand of writing can be described as “messy Black girls in fantasy situations.” She works in social media and spends her free time embroiled in reality tv because when you write messy characters you tend to enjoy that sort of drama. She also shares helpful tips for upcoming writers and details of her publishing journey through a YouTube Channel dedicated to helping demystify the sometimes complicated business of being an author.
