Join author Patricia Scarlett on June 24 at 6pm for the launch of her debut novel, Blinded by the Brass Ring (Baraka Books) at the Fairview Branch of the Toronto Public Library. The event will be moderated by Donisha Prendergast, an actor, writer, director and producer, who has contributed to many award-winning productions. They will discuss Blinded by the Brass Ring and the experiences of some Black professional women in Canada’s television and film industry.

This is a free Toronto Lit Up event and will run from  6 PM to 8 PM. Books will be on sale courtesy of Baraka Books.

Toronto Lit Up is a multi-year initiative, started in 2016 by the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Toronto Arts Council, to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. Between April 2016 and March 2023, Toronto Lit Up has presented 165 events featuring over 200 Toronto authors and illustrators. Toronto Lit Up book launches take place throughout the year at venues across the city. Featured Authors

Patricia Scarlett's stories reflect contemporary Black life in Canada and explore the intersections of race, class, and culture through a Caribbean-Canadian lens. Her early experience in television was primarily in international sales. Looking to the many journals she had kept over the years about the inner and outer workings of the domestic and international TV industry, Patricia wrote her first novel Blinded by the Brass Ring. Patricia regularly attends industry trade events such as MIP-TV and MIPCOM in Cannes, France. She is the recipient of the 2020 Afroglobal Television Media Award. Raised in Montreal, Patricia now lives in Toronto.
