John Boyne is the author of nine novels for adults and four for younger adults. His novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas sold more than six million copies worldwide and was made into a Miramax feature film.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas follows the story of Bruno, a 9-year-old boy growing up in Berlin during World War II and his unlikely friendship with Shmuel, a young Jewish boy imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp. In this excerpt, Boyne reads from his novel about their first encounter.
Boyne will appear at this year’s Festival reading from his latest novel, Stay Where You Are and Then Leave, and will also participate in an Artist Talk.
