IFOA 35 author Michael Crummey on storytelling in Newfoundland

At the 2013 IFOA, author Michael Crummey was joined by Wayne Johnston and Peter Robinson for a discussion about the importance of setting in their stories. In the below clip, Crummey describes how Newfoundlanders have, what he calls, “an inherent sense of narrative” and how that sense has influenced his own writing.

“Storytelling in Newfoundland,” he says, “was how people entertained themselves and … how they kept history alive.”

Crummey will be a participant in the 35th edition of the International Festival of Authors at events in both Toronto and Parry Sound, where he will present his latest novel, Sweetland.
