David Bezmozgis reads from The Free World

David Bezmozgis is a writer and filmmaker. His first book, Natasha and Other Stories, won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for best first book. His first feature film, Victoria Day, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.

In this clip, Bezmozgis reads an excerpt from his 2011 novel, The Free World, a story about a family of Soviet Jewish refugees looking to start a new life in the West.

Bezmozgis will be appearing at this year’s Festival, reading from his 2014 Scotiabank Giller Prize-longlisted novel, The Betrayers.
