Doyali Islam and Anna Maxymiw read from their latest works, heft and Dirty Work: My Gruelling, Glorious, Life-Changing Summer in the Wilderness, respectively. In conversation with author Andy McGuire, Islam and Maxymiw will discuss the themes of fortitude and resilience in their books and share their experiences with navigating Canadian publishing. These books will be available for purchase with a book signing to follow the event.

  • Doyali Islam

    Doyali Islam’s poems have been published in Kenyon Review Online, The Fiddlehead, and The Best Canadian Poetry in English, and have won several national contests and prizes. Doyali serves as the poetry editor of Arc Poetry Magazine. In 2017, she was a guest on CBC Radio’s The Sunday Edition and was a poetry finalist for the National Magazine Awards. She lives in Toronto. heft is her second collection of poetry.

  • Anna Maxymiw

    Anna Maxymiw lives in Toronto. Her writing has appeared in such publications as The Globe and MailHazlitt MagazineMaclean’s, and The Washington Post, and has won a National Magazine Award for humour. Her first book, Dirty Work, is out with McClelland & Stewart.

  • Andy McGuire

    Andy McGuire is the author of Country Club. Most recently he collaborated with visual artist Kim Dorland on the artist’s book Same Old Future. McGuire lives in Huron County.
