Each session brings a contemporary writer sharing a favourite book or author, offering their insight as an author and sharing their joy as a reader. In this session, Mark Billingham, one of the UK’s most popular crime writers, explores The Maltese Falcon, the 1930 detective novel by American writer Dashiell Hammett. The hardboiled detective story has been adapted into several films, stage plays and audio dramas. Billingham will discuss Hammett’s writing style and how it influenced detective stories for years to come.
