5:00pm
Monday, October 25
Scotiabank Giller Prize-shortlisted author David Bergen and 2015 Pen/Faulkner Award-winning author Atticus Lish come together to explore the impact of parents’ lives on children. Bergen’s incoming novel, Out of Mind, revisits the character of Lucille Black, who first appeared in the bestselling The Matter with Morris. The novel is a brilliant and subtle evocation of vulnerability, loss and one woman’s identity becoming ensnared between the demands of family and her own longing. Lish’s The War for Gloria tells the story of a young man straddling childhood and adulthood, whose yearning to protect his mother requires him to dismantle the myth – and possibly destroy his father.
