Featured Authors

Beatriz Hausner has published several poetry collections, including Sew Him Up, Enter the Raccoon and Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart. Her books have been published internationally and translated into several languages, including her native Spanish, French, Dutch and most recently Greek. Her translations of Latin American surrealists like César Moro, Rosamel del Valle, Jorge Cáceres and Aldo Pellegrini have exerted an important influence on her own writing. Hausner was President of the Literary Translators’ Association of Canada and Chair of the Public Lending Right Commission. She lives in Toronto where she publishes The Philosophical Egg.

Mathew Henderson grew up in Tracadie, Prince Edward Island. After he graduated high school, Henderson worked summers in the oil fields of Saskatchewan and Alberta. His experiences there provided inspiration for his first book of poetry, The Lease, which was a finalist for both the Trillium Book Award for Poetry and the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Henderson earned an M.F.A. from the University of Guelph and has had poems published in The Walrus, Brick, Maisonneuve, and Best Canadian Poetry.

Paul Vermeersch is a poet, multimedia artist, creative writing professor and literary editor. He is the author of several poetry collections, including the Trillium Award-nominated The Reinvention of the Human Hand. He holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Guelph for which he received the Governor General’s Gold Medal. His poems have been translated into Polish, German, Spanish, and French and have appeared in international anthologies. He teaches at Sheridan College and is the founding editor of Buckrider Books, an imprint of Wolsak & Wynn Publishers Ltd. He lives in Toronto, Ontario.

Liam Galway is an artist hailing from Comox, B.C. Liam's passion for poetry began at a young age and has since immersed himself in Toronto's spoken words scene. Liam was Toronto's representative at the Canadian Spoken Word Championships and ranked among the top ten youth poets in Canada in the Voices of Today festival. Using his unique background of dance and acting, Liam brings a stylized performance style that has resonated with audiences across Canada. Liam is so excited to be a part of TIFA and looks forward to performing in person soon.
