Join us for an evocative conversation with Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate Louise Bernice Halfe (Sky Dancer), who will present two poetry collections: Blue Marrow and The Crooked Good. More than 20 years since its first publication, the critically acclaimed Blue Marrow collection has been beautifully redesigned, remaining a poignant tribute to the indomitable power of Indigenous women of the past and present. The Crooked Good guides the reader on a three-fold journey where the personal, historical and mythic walk hand in hand.

Louise Bernice Halfe – Sky Dancer was raised on Saddle Lake Reserve and attended Blue Quills Residential School. Her first book, Bear Bones & Feathers, received the Milton Acorn People’s Poetry Award and was a finalist for the Spirit of Saskatchewan Award, the Pat Lowther Award and the Gerald Lampert Award. Her book, Burning in This Midnight Dream, won the Saskatchewan Book Award and the Raymond Souster Award, among other awards. Halfe was awarded the Latner Writers Trust Award for her body of work in 2017, and the 2020 Kloppenburg Award for Literary Excellence. She is currently the first Indigenous person serving as Canada’s Poet Laureate. Janet Rogers is a Mohawk/Tuscarora writer from Six Nations of the Grand River. Janet traveled throughout 2017-2019 working within numerous residencies in Vancouver BC, Santa Fe NM and Edmonton AB. Janet is based on the Six Nations territory of the Grand River where she operates the Ojistoh Publishing label. Janet works in page poetry, spoken word performance poetry, video poetry and recorded poetry with music. She is a radio broadcaster, documentary producer and media and sound artist. Her literary titles include: Splitting the Heart; Red Erotic; Unearthed; Peace in Duress; and Totem Poles and Railroads.
