In this TIFA creative writing masterclass, bestselling Scottish author Doug Johnstone will teach you killer editing skills for producing stories that grip readers and propel plotlines. Johnstone is the author of A Dark Matter (2020), Breakers (2019) and The Jump (2015), which were shortlisted for the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Novel of the Year. He has taught creative writing and been a writer-in-residence at various institutions over the last decade, and has been an arts journalist for over 20 years. Over 90 minutes, Johnstone will share the process of self-editing to become a concise and effective writer. All writing levels welcome.

Doug Johnstone is the author of 12 previous novels. Several of his books have been bestsellers and three, A Dark Matter (2020), Breakers (2019) and The Jump (2015), were shortlisted for the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Novel of the Year. He’s taught creative writing and has been a writer-in-residence at various institutions over the last decade, including at a funeral parlour.
