Oncology nurse and counsellor Janie Brown discusses life’s big questions on grief, loss and death with award-winning TV and film producer Liz Levine. Both authors made their writing debuts this year, with Brown’s Radical Acts of Love, accounting her conversations with the dying throughout her career; and with Levine’s Nobody Talks About Anything but the End, a genuinely moving memoir.

Janie Brown was born in Epsom, England, raised in Glasgow, Scotland, and emigrated to Canada in 1984 to become a nurse at the BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver. She has a Master's in Psychology and a Master's in Nursing. She has worked as an oncology nurse and counsellor for over 30 years and in 1995 founded the Callanish Society, a grassroots non-profit organization for people living with, and dying from, cancer. She presents internationally, has published in professional journals and writes a widely-read blog. In 2016, she received a Lloyd Symington Foundation grant to write this book.

Liz Levine is an award-winning producer whose credits include Kyra Sedgwick’s directorial debut, Story of a Girl, and Douglas Coupland’s television series jPod. She completed her master of journalism degree at the University of British Columbia and has written for the National Post, The Walrus, Playback magazine, and The Vancouver Sun. She divides her time between Toronto, Vancouver, and Los Angeles.

Sheniz Janmohamed (MFA) is a poet, artist educator and land artist who has performed her work in venues across the world, including the Jaipur Literature Festival, Alliance Française de Nairobi and the Aga Khan Museum. She has two collections of poetry: Bleeding Light (Mawenzi House, 2010) and Firesmoke (Mawenzi House, 2014). Her writing has been published in a number of journals, including Quill & Quire, Arc Poetry Magazine and Canadian Literature.  She is the founder of Questions for Ancestors and the Sufi Poets Series. Learn more about her work here: www.shenizjanmohamed.com
