Meet the authors writing in languages that represent unique communities from around the world and across the local neighbourhoods of Toronto. This event will introduce you to several writers who have recently taken initiative to translate Canadian literature into Bengali. Saeed Jadid, Tasmina Khan, Sujit Kusum Paul, Dr. Dilip Chakraborty, Surajit Roy Majumder and Manosi Saha will be interviewed by Subrata Kumar Das, Executive Director of the Bengali Literary Resource Centre (BLRC). Presented in the Bengali language, and in partnership with the BLRC.

টরন্টোর লোকালয়গুলোতেই শুধু নয়, সারা বিশ্বজুড়ে বিভিন্ন ভাষাভাষীর প্রতিনিধিত্বশীল লেখকদের সাথে পরিচিত হোন। এই অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে পরিচিত হওয়া যাবে সেই লেখকদের সাথে যারা সম্প্রতি বাংলায় অনুবাদ করেছেন কানাডার সাহিত্য। বেঙ্গলি লিটারারি রিসোর্স সেন্টার (বিএলআরসি)-এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক সুব্রত কুমার দাস কথা বলেছেন সাঈদ যাদীদ, তাসমিনা খান, সুজিত কুসুম পাল, ড. দিলীপ চক্রবর্তী, সুরজিত রায় মজুমদার এবং মানসী সাহার সাথে। বাংলা ভাষায় গৃহীত এই কথোপকথন উপস্থাপন করা হচ্ছে বিএলআরসি-এর যৌথ উদ্যোগে।

Featured Authors

Saeed Jadid was born in Bangladesh and earned bachelor’s degree in surgery and medicine from the University of Chittagong. He is the past editor of Journal of Health Sciences and Mrittika (a literary journal in Bengali) and has published a collection of poems, Nibedita Pongtimalain BengaliHe is a researcher of human history and translator with special interest in the history of AfricaRecently, he translated Lawrence Hill's The Book of Negroes into Bengali.

Manosi Saha is a writer living in Kingston, Ontario. She was born in Bangladesh and after finishing her Master’s in Science, she moved to Canada in 2000 to make it her second home. She completed her Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University and is currently teaching at Limestone District School Board. Manosi started writing poems, short stories and articles at a very young age. She regularly writes for various newspapers and magazines while working on her Canadian Literature writing projects. As a mother of two boys, loving wife and singer, Manosi enjoys reading, gardening and traveling in her spare time.

Subrata Kumar Das, an immigrant in Canada since 2013, is an author and curator. A member of the Writers’ Union of Canada and Literary Translators Association of Canada, Subrata has 29 books to his credit. Subrata’s Bengali book on CanLit has been hugely acclaimed by the Bengali literature-lovers living in Canada and Bangladesh. The initiator of Bangladeshi Novels (bdnovels.org), the first website on Bengali literature in 2003, Subrata is the recipient of Nalanda Best Canadian Bengali Author Award at Canadian South Asian Literary Festival 2023 and Gayatri GaMarsh Memorial Award in 2018. He was shortlisted as Best Canadian Immigrant Award in 2021.

Tasmina Khan is a Behaviour Analyst that loves reading and writing short stories and poems. She recently completed a manuscript, which included translating and analyzing Alice Munro’s short stories, and loved it!

Surajit Roy Majumder, born in Bagerhat, Bangladesh, graduated and received a master's degree in English. He worked briefly as a journalist, then joined the civil service and taught in public colleges. Along with designing a national language curriculum as a curriculum specialist, he has co-authored English textbooks, worked as an official translator and editor of textbooks and was a publishing coordinator. He has also presented research papers, edited journals/magazines, published articles, short fictions and poems in Bengali and English from Dhaka and Toronto. He is currently living in Toronto and translating and critiquing Canadian literature.

Sujit Kusum Paul, Member of International Yeats Society, was born in Bangladesh and studied English literature at Chittagong University. He has completed a diploma in personnel management and information system management, worked as a Feature Editor for Daily Swadhinata and served Pfizer Corporation Bangladesh for 13 years. He was also elected Organizing Secretary of Chittagong Union of Journalists and President of the Rotary Club of Rajshahi. He wrote a book on William Butler Yeats’ poetry in Bengali and has edited magazines for Bengali Literary Resource Center, Institute of Personnel Management, Heart Foundation, Cancer Society and Rotary Club.

Dilip Chakraborty is an 83 year old writer. He has studied at various educational institutes, including Scottish Church College, St. Paul’s CollegeKolkata University and Oxford UniversityHe obtained a masters degree in English from Calcutta University and Rajasthan University, and a PhD in English from Aligarh Muslim University. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses and worked as a Principal at four colleges in India. He has published three books and enjoys music, reading and travelling.
