Celebrate and explore some of today’s best Canadian children’s authors and illustrators!

Eric Walter’s The King of Jam Sandwiches tells the heartfelt, harrowing story of thirteen-year-old Robbie. No one knows that Robbie’s dad isn’t like most parents. Sometimes he wakes Robbie up in the middle of the night to talk about dying. Sometimes he just leaves without telling Robbie where he’s going. Robbie is terrified of being left alone, but even more scared of telling anyone in case he is put into foster care. Written with a wry, humorous narrative, The King of Jam Sandwiches will have you rooting for the hero while your heart aches for him.

Join us for a family-friendly reading from the book by author Eric Walters, as part of TIFA’s exclusive event series spotlighting the finalists for the 2020 GGBooks Young People’s Literature categories. The GGBooks Literary Awards winners will be announced on June 1.

Recommended for ages 9–12.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts to celebrate the Governor General’s Literary Awards.
