Featured Authors

Polly Horvath is the author of many books for young people, including The Night Garden, Everything on a Waffle, The Pepins and Their Problems, The Canning Season and The Trolls. Her numerous awards include the Newbery Honor, the National Book Award for Young People's Literature, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor and the Vicky Metcalf Award for Children's Literature. She has also been shortlisted for The Deutscher Jugenliteraturpreis, Germany's most prestigious literature award. Horvath grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She lives in Metchosin, British Columbia.

Sara Cassidy has worked as a newspaper reporter and a tree planter in five Canadian provinces. Her children’s books have been shortlisted for many awards, including the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize (Nevers, Genius Jolene), the Bolen Books Children's Book Prize (Skylark, Nevers), the Silver Birch Express Award (A Boy Named Queen, Genius Jolene), the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award, the Rocky Mountain Book Award and five titles for the Chocolate Lily Award. Her poetry, fiction and nonfiction for adults has been published in many outlets across the country.

Naseem Hrab is a writer and storyteller. She is the author of Ira Crumb Makes a Pretty Good Friend, Ira Crumb Feels the Feelings and the upcoming The Sour Cherry Tree. Her comedy writing has appeared on McSweeney’s Internet Tendency and The Rumpus. Naseem worked as a librarian for a time and now works in children’s publishing. She lives in Toronto.

Ryan B. Patrick is a CBC producer in Toronto. Ryan is one of the producers responsible for the digital content programming for the CBC Books site, including the radio shows Writers & Company and The Next Chapter. Ryan also has experience as a book reviewer and arts & culture journalist who has written for Exclaim!, NOW and THIS magazine. He also sits on the juries for the Polaris Music Prize and Prism Prize and has been a past JUNO Awards Judge.
