Join Canadian authors Tsering Yangzom Lama and Jamie Chai Yun Liew for a moving conversation reflecting on the emotional cost of leaving home to forge a new life elsewhere – whether by choice or by circumstance – and the need to maintain a connection to ancestral lands. Tsering Yanzom Lama presents We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies, a poignant meditation on colonization, displacement and rebirth recounting a Tibetan family’s fifty-year journey through exile and their struggles to shape new lives. Jamie Chai Yun Liew’s Dandelion is a beautifully written and affecting novel about an Asian woman who must trace her mother’s past journey in order to learn who she really is and where she belongs.

Featured Authors

Tsering Yangzom Lama holds a BA in creative writing and international relations from the University of British Columbia, and an MFA from Columbia University. Born and raised in Nepal, Tsering has lived in Toronto, New York City, and Vancouver, where she now resides. We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies is her first novel.

Jamie Chai Yun Liew is the author of the novel Dandelion. She is the recipient of the Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop (ACWW) Jim Wong-Chu Emerging Writers Award.  She is also a lawyer, law professor and podcaster (Migration Conversations) who lives in Ottawa with her family.

Nancy Lam is a Toronto author. As a child and teenager, she lost herself in stories by Canadian writers, in university she majored in Canadian History to earn a Bachelor of Arts before acquiring her law degree. As an immigration lawyer she now helps prospective Canadians write and present their life stories to government officials. Her first novel, The Loyal Daughter (At Bay Press, Fall 2022) is based on her mother’s immigration story to Canada.
