Creative Activism Through Art & Writing: Make a Manifesto!

6:30pm

Saturday, September 24, 2022

Join author Leanne Prain for a hands-on workshop exploring the main themes from her book The Creative Instigators Handbook: A DIY Guide to Making Social Change through Art.

In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to artists, designers and writers who through varied and unusual creative work make a difference in the world. With a wide variety of visual examples, Leanne will discuss how art can be used to implement civic collaborations, community co-creations and conversation-worthy street art.

Participants will learn simple book-binding techniques in order to craft their own simple zine before being invited to explore how to use their creative skills with a variety of fun writing and brainstorming prompts designed to activate meaningful social or political change. Inspire your own activist causes, your personal creative manifestos, your ideal co-conspirators and your dream projects.

Basic zine-making supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring extra bits of personally meaningful ephemera, photos, notes or glitter to add to their zines if they choose.

Appropriate for ages 12–100.
