We Come Back Together: Joshua Whitehead

We Come Back Together: Joshua Whitehead

4:30pm

Sunday, October 2, 2022

Stage in the Park, October 2 at 4:30pm ET.

“We come back together, only to fall apart.”

TIFA is proud to present our new collection of writing penned by some of the world’s most distinctive voices. We invited 11 authors to respond to a phrase that encapsulates elements of life in 2022. Join us daily to hear authors read their newly commissioned work as part of our free, outdoor programming.

This event features the reading of Two-Spirit, Oji-nêhiyaw author Joshua Whitehead‘s commission. Whitehead is the author of the acclaimed novel Jonny Appleseed which was longlisted for the Giller Prize, shortlisted for the Indigenous Voices Award, the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Amazon Canada First Novel Award, the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award and won the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Fiction and the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction.

The reading will be followed by a PEN Canada Writers in Prison Reading; you’ll hear Festival authors perform free readings of short prose and verse written by imprisoned writers from around the world including journalists, literary critics, filmmakers and a Nobel peace laureate. Curated in partnership with PEN Canada, an organization that defends freedom of expression and promotes global community through literature.

This is a free outdoor event. Find the venue on the #FestofAuthors22 map here.

Please be advised that Joshua Whitehead, originally scheduled for this event, can no longer appear. A special guest will be reading Whitehead’s commission.
