The Goethe-Institut Toronto, in collaboration with MOTIVE Festival, invites you to Books & Brötchen, an event with Melanie Raabe & Elizabeth Renzetti at the new Goethe Community Space. Cologne-based author Melanie Raabe, author of award-wining mystery novel The Shadow ​and host of a popular podcast on creativity, will be in conversation with Toronto author and Globe & Mail journalist, Elizabeth Renzetti. They’ll discuss the trials and triumphs of writing and performing across different mediums and a casual brunch will allow our guests to break bread and engage with these fantastic talents in an intimate setting. Featured Authors

Melanie Raabe is a German author. She debuted with psychological thriller The Trap in 2015, followed by The Stranger (2016), The Shadow (2018) and The Woods (2019). Her latest work is a non-fiction book on creativity. Raabe's novels are published in more than 20 countries. She lives in the city of Cologne. Melanie Raabe’s Festival appearance is generously supported by Goethe-Institut.

Elizabeth Renzetti is a national columnist with The Globe and Mail. Elizabeth’s first novel, Based on a True Story, was published by House of Anansi Press in June 2014, and became a national bestseller. It was also published in 2015 by Allen & Unwin (Australia) and Atlantic Books (UK). Her collection of original essays, Shrewed, was published in March, 2018 by House of Anansi Press. For a dozen years, Elizabeth was a correspondent in the Globe’s London and Los Angeles bureaus, where she learned to shake her fist at the sun and the rain with equal vigour. While avoiding cleaning, she enjoys old movies, horse racing, travel, and not cleaning. She lives in Toronto with her husband, two children and a cat named Perdu who keeps getting lost.
