Join Canadian author Colin McAdam as he discusses his latest novel – a story of grief, single parenting and the power of a child’s imagination – Black Dove. The book follows 12-year-old Oliver, who is simultaneously dealing with the loss of his mother, fear of his genetics, and constant harassment by bullies. During his struggles, he finds light in the darkness by way of a junk shop full of oddities and wonders. Under the guidance of its shop-keeper, a mad geneticist, Oliver begins miraculously editing and transforming his own genetics. Explore Oliver’s world of dark consequences and fantastical creatures with McAdam, and hear how the author expertly weaves together magical realism and horror.

Featured Authors

Colin McAdam’s last novel, A Beautiful Truth, won the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. It was also a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award and named a Globe and Mail Best Book of the Year. His first novel, Some Great Thing, won the Amazon/Books in Canada First Novel Award and was nominated for the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Award, the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in the U.K. His second novel, Fall, was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and awarded the Paragraphe Hugh MacLennon Prize. He lives in Chelsea, Quebec.

David Bezmozgis is an award-winning writer and filmmaker. He is the author of the story collections, Immigrant City and Natasha and Other Stories, and the novels, The Betrayers and The Free World. His books have been nominated for the Scotiabank/Giller Prize, The Governor-General's Award, the Trillium Prize and won the Amazon.ca First Novel Award and the National Jewish Book Award. Born in Riga, Latvia, David lives in Toronto where he is the Creative Director of the Humber School for Writers.
