11:00am
Sunday, September 25
Join illustrator Nancy Vo for a very special event as she introduces her latest book, As Glenn Can Be written by Sarah Ellis. This is a beautifully illustrated biography of child prodigy and world-famous classical musician Glenn Gould, who would have been 90 years-old this year. Glenn had a professional performing career by the time he was 15; he gave concerts all over the world in his 20s. He became best known for his interpretation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. But Glenn grew to dislike concerts — the hall was too cold, or he didn’t feel well, or the audience made too much noise (he didn’t even like their applause!). He discovered that when he played and recorded music in an empty concert hall, he could make it sound exactly the way he wanted. In a fascinating presentation, Nancy will talk about her research and inspiration for presenting a complex man, life and career in an accessible and engaging way. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
