A Different Page: Open Creation

A Different Page: Open Creation

12:00pm

Friday, September 30, 2022

South Lawn Tent, September 30 at 12pm ET.

Introducing A Different Page, a new multidisciplinary storytelling series where writers, dance artists and musicians collaborate to create new performance pieces that explores themes of decolonization and diversity. Each presentation features a different duo of writers and performing artists, who can be seen by audiences rehearsing together on-site during the day before presenting their finished performance that evening. A Different Page is co-curated by Artistic Director of Pratibha Arts, Bageshree Vaze and Another Story Bookshop Events Coordinator Anjula Gogia.

Musician Shahriyar Jamshidi and poet Moez Surani have been collaborating on an artistic creation that embodies both of their cultural heritages and creative voices. Jamshidi is a Kurdish-Iranian Canadian kamancheh player who has devoted his artistic career to the preservation and transmission of Kurdish musical heritage. Known for his creative improvisation, Jamshidi strives to create cultural bridges between the past, present and future. Surani, a Canadian poet and artist, will be adding his critical linguistic skills to Jamshidi’s musical dexterity. Surani’s poetry has been a critical contemporary voice on topics of policitics, international relations and public discourse. Much of Surani’s work shows the necessity for creative voices, the power of poetry to emote, and its linguistic ability to embody and question the communal experience and the violence within our world.

This is a free outdoor event. Find the venue on the #FestofAuthors22 map here.
