Become a Toronto International Festival of Authors Volunteer!

As a charitable cultural organization, the Toronto International Festival of Authors (TIFA) is grateful for the ongoing contributions made by our many volunteers. We simply couldn’t offer such a broad range of initiatives without their impressive skills and commitment.

What kind of volunteer opportunities are there?

Front of House Volunteers (Year-Round/Festival)

Canada’s largest and longest-running festival of words and ideas welcomes over 100 volunteers in a variety of roles during the span of 11 days, including: front of house, photography, hospitality, survey administration and more! This year’s Festival will take place October 24 – November 3. Learn more about our Festival here.

In addition to our annual Festival, we hold numerous events all year round. Working in a team, front of house volunteers act as ambassadors for our year-round visitors and audience members. They work closely with ushers to welcome and assist guests at the door and inside the house. Tasks include taking tickets, way finding and answering questions.

Video Camera Operators & Volunteer Photographers

Photographers and video camera operators play an essential role in archiving our events! Please note that photographers are required to bring their own professional DSLR cameras.

Office Administration Volunteers

Our office admins assist with paper filing, data entry and research. This is a great opportunity to gain administrative experience and learn how our events are run behind-the-scenes.

How to Sign up

TIFA programming wouldn’t be possible without the scores of volunteers who help year-round in the office, at events and by spreading the word. It’s rewarding and fun!

The TIFA volunteer programme is part of the larger Harbourfront Centre volunteer system. By joining the programme, you can choose to sign up for TIFA shifts, or participate in numerous other volunteer opportunities at Harbourfront Centre.

To register, simply sign up through Harbourfront Centre’s ‘My Volunteer Page’. In the ‘General Interest’ make sure to select ‘Literary Arts’.
