Anyone who holds a ticket to The Event is eligible to enter The Contest. Ticket-holders can enter The Contest simply by posting a photo of their event tickets to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #FestofAuthors18, or to Facebook by Tagging @FestofAuthors. Alternatively, ticket-holders who do not have access to these social media accounts can visit the TIFA Information Desk during The Event in the Festival Hub (235 Queens Quay W., Toronto) to speak with a Festival representative who can take the photo for them, and post it to TIFA’s own Twitter or Instagram accounts on their behalf. Each post that contains a photo of event tickets and a proper tag represents one chance to win C$500.00 worth of books. Entrants who attempt to, or are suspected of, tampering with the rules and regulations of The Contest and will be disqualified from The Contest.

The Contest is open to all residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entry. Employees and representatives of the Harbourfront Centre and the TIFA, as well as its advertising and promotional agencies, affiliated corporations and other persons, firms or corporations involved in the development or execution of this Contest, are not eligible to enter or win a prize in this Contest.

On October 31, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario, six (6) eligible entrants will be selected by random draw from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. The winners will be notified via direct message on the same social media platform on which they entered The Contest. Before being declared a winner, the selected entrants must correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question and confirm compliance with the contest rules. If the selected entrant incorrectly answers the mathematical skill-testing question, declines the prize, or fails to comply to the contest rules, the prize shall be forfeited and TIFA has the right, at its sole discretion, to select another winner or to cancel the contest.

Each winner will receive a book package with a retail value of C$500.00. It may be in the form of a gift certificate from a publishing company, or a pre-selected bundle of books. The winner will be put in touch with the publishing company to coordinate the delivery of the prize.

By entering this Contest, each participant agrees to abide and be bound by these contest rules. All decisions of the TIFA shall be final and binding upon the participant. To be declared a winner, the selected contestant must first correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question.
The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged or refunded for an amount of money, sold or transferred. No substitutions will be allowed. Any unused portion of a prize will be forfeited. If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, the TIFA reserves the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value, as determined in its sole discretion. Refusal to accept the prize releases the Contest Parties from any obligation toward the winner. By participating in the contest, the winner agrees to the possibility of their name, voice, or likeness being used in promotional material relating to this contest without additional financial or other compensation, and releases TIFA, as well as its respective directors, officers and employees from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this Contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize. TIFA reserves the right, exercisable in its discretion, to disqualify and ban any participant from this Contest if the participant is found or is believed to have been tampering with the entry process, or the operation of the Contest. TIFA will not be held responsible for missing or damaged entries. TIFA reserves the right to cancel, suspend, withdraw or amend this Contest in any way, without prior notice or obligation, in the event of an error, technical problem, computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of the TIFA that interferes with the proper conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these Contest Rules. Any attempt to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, TIFA reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution. By entering this Contest, each participant agrees that TIFA will not be liable for any injury or damage from whatever cause associated with or in connection with this Contest. This Contest is subject to Canadian law and void where prohibited or restricted.
